Connecting Clio to ReferralPulse
If you run your law practice in Clio, connecting it to ReferralPulse keeps your referral records and your matters in step. New matters you open for referred clients get linked to the right referral automatically, status changes in Clio update the referral status here, and when a matter's bill gets paid, your assistant drafts a thank-you note to the partner who sent the work your way.
The connection is one-way and read-only. ReferralPulse reads from Clio. It never creates matters, never edits contacts, and never writes anything back into your Clio account.
Connecting your Clio account
Where to find it: Sidebar (gear icon) → Settings → Integrations tab → CRM & Practice Management → Clio → Connect.
Click Connect on the Clio row. A popup opens with Clio's sign-in page. Sign in to Clio if you aren't already, review the access request, and click Allow Access. The popup closes itself when the connection succeeds, and the Clio row in your settings flips to the green Connected state with your account name and a last-synced timestamp.
If the popup is blocked by your browser, allow popups for referralpulse.ai and click Connect again.
The connection is per user, not per firm. Each lawyer in your firm who wants Clio matters synced to their own ReferralPulse account needs to connect Clio from their own Settings page. The same Clio firm account can be connected by multiple ReferralPulse users without conflict.
What gets synced
Once Clio is connected, four things happen automatically.
New matters auto-link to received referrals. When you open a matter in Clio for a client a partner referred to you, your assistant looks at your unlinked received referrals and tries to find a match. If the matter's client email is the same as the referral's client email, the match is silent and you get a notification confirming the link. If the match is less certain (full name match, or company + a shared name token), you get a suggestion notification with a one-click confirm on the referral detail page. If nothing matches, no link is created and the matter stays untouched.
Matter status flows into the referral. When a matter's status changes in Clio, the linked referral updates here. Open and Pending matters keep the referral as Open. Closed matters move the referral to Won. The change shows up in the referral's activity timeline as a Status changed to won (synced from Clio) entry so it's clear where the update came from.
Paid bills surface a thank-you draft. When Clio records that a bill on the linked matter has been paid, your assistant queues a draft note to the partner who sent you the referral, mentioning the commission. Like every email the assistant writes, it's a draft you read and approve. Find it on the Action Queue in the sidebar.
Auto-link only fires for received referrals. Matters you open for clients you didn't get from a referral partner are never auto-linked, never notified about, and never touched. The integration is scoped to the referrals you received, where matching a matter to the referral is meaningful.

Linking a matter to a referral manually
The auto-link covers the common case. For everything else, you can link any matter to any received referral by hand.
Where to find it: Sidebar → Referrals → open a received referral → scroll to the Link to Clio matter for auto-sync button below the client section.
Clicking the button opens a dialog with three sections. At the top, if your assistant has a strong guess, you'll see a pinned We think this matches card. Below that, a search field lets you find any matter in your Clio account by client name, email, or matter number. Below the search, you'll see suggested matches based on the referral's client info, plus a list of your most recent matters so you can browse.
Click Link next to the matter you want. The matter pins to the referral as a blue pill showing the matter display number and status. From that point on, the auto-sync rules above apply. Clicking the small unlink icon on the pill removes the link without affecting the underlying referral or the matter.
If you got a notification that read New Clio matter, possible referral match and tapped through to the referral, the matching matter is already pinned at the top of the link dialog. Click Link to confirm, or close the dialog if it isn't the right match.
Disconnecting Clio
Where to find it: Settings → Integrations → CRM & Practice Management → Clio → Disconnect.
Disconnect prompts you for confirmation, then revokes the access token and stops the sync. Your existing matter links and any sync history that's already been written into the referral activity timeline are preserved, since they're part of the referral record on this side. Reconnecting later picks up where you left off.
If you want to remove ReferralPulse's access from inside Clio instead, sign in to Clio, open Settings → Apps in your Clio account, find ReferralPulse in the list, and revoke it there. The result is the same on this side. The integration card shows as disconnected the next time you open Settings.
On the iOS app
You can check whether Clio is connected from your phone, but the connect and disconnect buttons live on the web app today. Open Settings → Integrations on the web to make the change.
The auto-link and status-sync work in the background regardless of which device you're on, so a matter you open in Clio on your laptop can show up linked to a referral you open in the iOS app a minute later.
If you ask your assistant in the AI Chat something like "did Mary's referral close yet," it can read the synced status straight from the referral. You don't need to flip between Clio and ReferralPulse to check.
