Changing an introduction into a referral, or a referral into an introduction
It is easy to log something as one when it was really the other. An introduction is you connecting two people. A referral is you handing a specific piece of business to a partner. If you pick the wrong one, you can switch it in a few clicks, and ReferralPulse fixes the counts on both sides so your pipeline and your introduction stats stay honest.
Turn a Referral Into an Introduction
If something you logged as a referral was actually just an introduction, reclassify it.
Where to find it: Sidebar → Referrals → the ⋯ menu on the referral card → Convert to Introduction.
A short form opens. Confirm the contact's first name, last name, and email, add their company and a line about what the introduction was about if you like, then click Convert to Introduction. ReferralPulse logs the introduction (you introducing the contact, or your partner introducing them to you, depending on the direction), removes the old referral so it stops counting toward your pipeline, and adjusts your partner's totals to match. You land on the new introduction's page.
Reach for this when a "referral" had no real piece of business attached yet. If it was a genuine handoff that simply started with an introduction, keep the referral and link the introduction to it instead (see below), so you keep both the connection and the deal.
Turn an Introduction Into a Referral
If a partner actually sent you a piece of business but you logged it as an introduction, reclassify it the other way.
Where to find it: Sidebar → Introductions → the ⋯ menu on the introduction → Reclassify as Referral.
Fill in the client details (name, company, email, and what they need), and ReferralPulse creates a received referral from the partner who made the connection. The original introduction is marked as reclassified rather than deleted, so you keep the history.
Link a Referral to the Introduction That Started It
Most of the time you don't need to convert anything. A great introduction that turns into business is two records working together, the introduction that opened the door and the referral that became the deal. Linking them lets you see your introduction-to-revenue conversion.
When you log a referral and pick the partner, a Came from an introduction? section appears. Your choices are:
- No, not from an introduction (the default).
- An existing introduction involving that partner, shown as the intro subject, who made it, and the date.
- Yes, from an earlier introduction (not tracked here), for a connection that happened before you started using the app. Pick who made it and roughly when, and ReferralPulse logs that past introduction and links it.
Where to find it: Sidebar → Referrals → Give Referral or Receive Referral → pick the partner → Came from an introduction?
ReferralPulse also links these for you automatically. When you log a referral that clearly matches an open introduction, it connects them on its own. When the match is close but not certain, the introduction shows a one-tap Link to referral suggestion you can confirm.
On the iOS app
These actions live in the same ⋯ menus on the Referrals and Introductions screens on your phone. You can also ask your assistant in chat, for example "this referral from Dana was actually just an introduction," and it will walk the change for you.
